When you get a bad ending, don't start from the very beginning. The thing is, I had to replay constantly and wanted to talk about it too, but I realised my mistake and I want to give an advice for those who are yet to play it. I got most endings though and completed part 2. It took me 260 hours to complete and I haven't 100% it. The script could really use some trimming. I often found myself getting tired of reading tons of text and that text wasn't really of good quality. And each turn may last hours, if not dozens of them. A couple of quick fights and one-two bosses per turn. That's because there was barely any gameplay. While I love boss fights, the overall gameplay was really underwhelming. Very charismatic, but just a normal hero. It's just not for me and I was disappointed when they changed it from brutal dark fantasy with Rance's character perfectly fitting in the world into some happy-go-lucky JRPG where even Rance became more like a normal hero. Yes, MAYBE there IS an explanation to the tone shift, but why change something that was working perfectly in Kichikuou? I can still understand people who like Rance X. I can only guess that TADA had gotten pretty old and mellow after these 30 years. This should be a dark fantasy and even if we put part 2 aside, even part 1 was extremely light. It can work in some cases, but not in this one. Nothing can explain changing the genre of the story. Yes, there was a guy who was also complaining about the series becoming too light and happy in X and people said that there was an explanation to that. And I'll remind you that Rance is a dark fantasy series. The jokes weren't as funny as in some other games, the plot was mostly predictable aside from a few moments, it wasn't dark at all. If not for Rance himself, I would've dropped it, honestly. I'm sorry to say this, but it mostly felt like some generic JRPG. While the story itself is epic and grand and all that, I couldn't help but feel that I wasn't playing a Rance game all the time. Every boss fight with either of them playing in the background was exceptional and memorable.Īnd now we're getting to the negative side of things: I want to say that I love these 4 pieces of OST. Majin Battle, Oh-Boss, Decisive Battle and Blood Memories. Anyway, the story is epic, the ending was very strong and satisfying.Ĥ. Rance was mostly really fun and cool, especially in the end. It wasn't anything groundbreaking for me, but it was still good. I will talk more about the story in negative way, but I'll say that I liked the story anyway. Final boss of part 2 isn't hard, but extremely satisfying in many aspects. Most of the bosses have unique abilities which require unique strategies to beat them. Most bosses are unique and even challenging (I beat Kayblis on hard mode, btw) and I loved it. I love every character design and can't say anything bad about it. Orion finally reached his peak and the game is a sight for sore eyes. I'll start with the good things, because there's not that many of them for me: I am expecting to be hated for being kinda negative to this game, but I need to write this anyway. And this is my final review for a game from this series. Now my journey with Rance finally came to an end.
